SCS breaks into new business in Africa
In the spring of 2009, SCS was asked to make proposals to provide consultancy and technical support to an exercise for the Eastern African Standby Force (EASF) of the African Union. As a result, the Company now has two contracts, sponsored by UK and the Netherlands MODs respectively to provide specialist scenario support and a CIS network for exercise control. This is the first time that SCS has worked for the African Union.
EASF is a brigade-sized force of military, police and civilian components drawn from 13 countries in Eastern Africa. The force is about to conduct a major peace support exercise in Djibouti and SCS is shortly to deploy a 5 man team to that country to assist in running the exercise control in November and early December. The major EASF participants in Exercise AMANI CARANA are Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti itself who will all deploy battalion contingents. Individuals from all other EASF member states are also participating. Early stages of this project have been delivered by SCS throughout 2009 at preliminary events in Nairobi (the EASF secretariat) and also in Burundi.
SCS is pleased to extend its exercise support capability to this new and challenging environment.
